Kitchen market still strong

The UK fitted kitchen market increased by 8% in 2015, entering 2016 in a strong position, new figures have revealed.

The Overview Report by market research and consultancy company JKMR found that fitted kitchen product sales hit more than £3.5 billion and installation numbers exceeded 1.1 million.

The report forecasts that the market will see further growth throughout 2016, with total market sales estimated to reach around £3.7bn.

In 2015, all product sectors saw growth of at least 6.5%, however, the sink and taps sector saw the highest growth at 10%.

It also indicated that the market had seen rapid expansion of the ‘studio style’ mass-volume players Wren and Ikea. Despite this, independent retailers still hold a major position with 40% of total market value.

While the number of kitchen retailers in the UK increased slightly, physical store numbers are expected to fall over the next few years, according to JKMR.

It also saw owner-occupier refurbishment sales continue to grow, while sales to new-builds showed notable improvement.
