Hang on, just a minute. Is it me?

Everywhere I've been lately all I see is 'Sale 50% off !  Sale sale sale!'

In times of recession why is everyone determined to give away their precious margin? Just stop and think. As Corporal Jones would say "Don't panic!" Have retailers actually stopped and thought about the effect of margin erosion? If you give a consumer 10% discount on his bathroom, how many more bathrooms have you got to sell at full retail to claw back that lost margin? Do the maths, it's frightening...and that's just 10%.

When the traffic in your showroom has diminished isn't it more important than ever to protect your margin?
I can hear you all now. "That's easy for you to say, you're not sat in my showroom waiting for precious customers to come in". Well, you're correct I'm not. Maybe that's why I can look at this objectively.

Why are the majority of retailers convinced that everything revolves around being the cheapest? It doesn't!

Just look at some of the recent surveys that have been carried out, they scream one thing at you. Belief! Your clients need to believe in you, your business, your professionalism, your products and your staff. They need assurance that you will deliver everything that you promise. That you will deliver all of this when you say you will and at the standard that you have promised. When you can convince them of this, why wouldn't they buy from you?  Because they can get it 10% or 20% cheaper down the road? What price piece of mind? I know which I would rather have.
