KBSA deposits reply
13 January 2010

In the December issue, you published an opinion from David Moore.

For the record, the statement he makes about me is incorrect.I have never suggested that there is any link between deposit taking policy and the financial position of any retailer, I never mentioned the cost of joining the KBSA nor made any reference to 'who could or could not afford to join'.

There is simply no reference to these topics in the interview.

My reference to the deposit taking criteria of the KBSA within the interview does not appear to suggest anything about the financial position of any retailer. I indicated during the interview that most kitchen retailers agree with the KBSA on the need to promote professionalism and best practices and to continually work toward the goal of customer satisfaction.

However many retailers who meet the Association's criteria for membership on all otherissues, do not want to be tied to a fixed formula for deposit taking and therefore choose not to join the KBSA.

Swift Electrical Wholesalers has over 1,000 trade credit accounts with kitchen specialists, many of whom I have personally known for over 20 years. Only a very small number of our credit accounts are KBSA members. While I passionately support the objectives of the KBSA, as an appliance specialist distributor Swift Electrical works with a great many retailers and offers unsecured interest-free credit to a great many more of your readers than Mr Moore does.
