TOP TEN 2010: INTRO
07 February 2010

In 2008, to mark the last kbb Birmingham show, we revealed the ten biggest issues facing the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom industry as chosen by the kbbreview team. Now, as we approach kbb Birmingham 2010, we choose again - so what's up, what's down and what's new?

Few would deny that for anyone running a business the past two years have been unlike any others in recent memory - slowdown was followed by downturn, which turned into credit crunch and ended up in recession.

At kbb Birmingham 2008, talk of troubles ahead were in the air, but opinions were divided between preparing for the worst and, naively in retrospect, don't-worry-it'll-never-happen.

But new issues don't make old ones go away and many of the day-to-day worries, niggles and problems are still there and are as important as ever.

As difficult a task as it was, just before kbb Birmingham in 2008 we came up with what we at kbbreview thought were the top 10 issues this industry was facing. Now, as we prepare for kbb Birmingham 2010 next month, we've locked ourselves in a room and repeated the exercise - with very interesting results.

Exhibitions such as kbb Birmingham are, of course, about showing off products, but that's only part of it. It's as much about networking, meeting friends - and enemies - discussing the issues and gauging just where you stand relative to everyone else.

In other words, we don't expect you to agree with our choices. If you ask 100 people what the top 10 issues are, you'll probably get 100 different answers, each specific to their own woes or successes, but at least it triggers a debate about some major issues that this industry needs to address - or has consistently failed to address with any degree of success.

We want to know what you think, have we got it spot on or totally wrong? What have we missed out that you think we should be talking about? You can email me direct at the address below, so take advantage - it'll be 2012 before you'll get this chance again...
