Retailers can use the internet too you know...
24 February 2010

Andrea Ballestrieri, from Casa Cucina in Cockfosters, gives his view on internet trading...

After reading Stuart Parry's letter, I must say that I agree with him. From the start, clients always try to get the most out of a designer or kitchen consultant, but when they are ready to buy, they wheel out the usual story and try to get them to drop their prices - especially on appliances.

We have been a kitchen retailer for the past 30 years and have massive amounts of experience with this.

We are more than happy to have clients buy the appliance online or elsewhere - at the end of the day the discounts that Neff, Miele etc provide us with are a joke, so you end up with more expenses than profit.

We do install them for the client, but charge the same for fitting as we would if we were providing the appliance. If the client has trouble with a faulty appliance, it's their problem!

However, I believe that we still need to do research into what appliances the client is buying. After all, we are telling the client which appliance to buy, so you as a kitchen specialist should know what fits and what doesn't.

So the problem Stuart had with the hob being too deep and not being able to fit above the oven is his own doing. All it would have taken was 20 minutes to check the size and to know that you would have to fit a drawer front above the oven, simple!
