V&B predicts bathroom trends
23 February 2010

Bathroom brand Villeroy & Boch has released details of what it believes will be the principle bathroom design and fashion trends for 2010 and beyond.

This year will, the company said, will see hints of "glamour and romantic ambience filtering down from the catwalk."

Clean lines and structured curves will be a key trend as well as a still growing 'green' consideration. Romantic design and classical shapes will give a luxurious theme while bright hues and floral motifs will be present in indulgent bathroom collections.

"Traditionally reserved for bedrooms or lounges, colours such as framboise, black and lilac are creeping into the bathroom. Conventional blues and greens take a step back as consumers gain colour confidence and design awareness," the company said.

Influence from the cinema screen will also be present, it said, with the release of Alice In Wonderland leading to over-sized furniture like focal point mirrors and freestanding bathtubs.

Another trend will be for what V&B calls 'rustic individualism': "A return to natural simplicity, wood furniture and stone inspired sanitaryware will be evident throughout," it said.

"Modernity finds itself calling back to rich natural pieces; solid and stable classics with authenticity and stylish simplicity."

Interiors will also be influenced by "the gentle warmth and the subtle embellishment of the 'emerging East,' the company said. "A move on from the customary colour palettes and mtifs of the past decade, a more sophisticated adaptation of golds with modern Western utility will exhibit structural simplicity combined with the ornate imprint of the East."

This is evident, it said, in the warmer gold and bronze finishes replacing chrome while taps, mirrors and basins will see delicate floral prints.
