Bedroom market is booming, say suppliers

The bedroom market is ‘growing fast’, according to new research on the sector by kbbreview.

Both the retail and contract markets are seeing growth, which is being driven by the strong performance in the housing market, as well as increased demand from more ‘empty-nest’ homes and a younger demographic of homeowners coming through.

“The market is growing faster than many can keep up with,” said HPP design expert Tina Crossley. “Consumers are buying at a rate that was not expected following the Brexit vote, but confidence is high, and demand even higher. Our factory has been running at full capacity for some time now to keep up with this ever-increasing demand, and that doesn’t look set to slow down any time soon either.”

She added that the contract market was also fairing well and said it had completed more orders for its customers over the past 12 months than any previous year.

“The contract market in particular is buoyant and the main driver for growth is the housing market,” said Trend Interiors sales and marketing director Graham Jones, “with house builders being encouraged by the Government to build more homes. As the cost of construction rises, they will be aiming to maximise space by utilising areas in the roof space and eaves to create more bedrooms.”

He added: “A new bedroom will always be an easier investment in the home than a bathroom or a kitchen, as it is quicker and easier to install with overall costs being lower.”

In terms of market share, the fitted furniture sector is continuing to take a larger share of the total market year on year, Jones claimed.

Daval’s managing director Simon Bodsworth attributed the growing popularity of fitted bedroom furniture to its high flexibility of design.

He said that the bedroom furniture market was forecast to experience 2% growth in 2017. However, he said Daval was anticipating 10 to 12% growth in this market, driven by its made-to-measure offering.
