B&Q ‘sell cheapest kitchens’ in the UK, says comparison site

B&Q kitchens have been identified as the cheapest out of all the major kitchen retailers in the UK by price comparison site Kitchen Compare.

Kitchen Compare, which monitors daily pricing, finance deals and promotional activity on comparable kitchens sold by the UK’s national retailers, said B&Q kitchens were consistently the lowest-priced in 2018 and 2017.

Kitchen Compare’s analysis showed B&Q had four times as many comparable, lowest-priced kitchens as its closest competitors, scooping the award across 20 kitchens, compared with Homebase’s five, and Wickes’s three.

B&Q, like a number of its KBB rivals, has been under pressure this year with consumer confidence and the home-improvement market shrivelling up on the back of daily headlines about the risks of Brexit.

In the three months to end of October, sales at B&Q, including its showrooms, dropped almost 3% to £850 million. It has now exited a number of international markets where it had a peripheral presence to focus on building profitability in its “main markets”, including the UK.

Kitchen Compare’s expert panel said B&Q “consistently offers customers the best value for money and boasts higher quality kitchens when compared with Homebase and Wickes”.

Steve Collinge, managing director at Kitchen-Compare.com, said: “We monitor the activity of the UK’s leading kitchen retailers and track the individual component prices of comparable kitchen styles every single day. This gives us the most robust possible data and allows us to say with certainty that B&Q are consistently outperforming competitors, including Homebase, Wickes and Ikea, to offer the lowest priced kitchens.”

Mandy Winser, category director for kitchens at B&Q, said: “Our mission is to help people create good homes and to do that we need to make home-improvement projects affordable all year round. This is especially important when it comes to kitchens, as they are at the heart of the home. It’s great to see our commitment to offering year-round low prices to all our customers being independently recognised for the second year running by kitchen-compare.com

Kitchen Compare’s analysis takes a directly comparable eight-unit galley model, consisting of 50 individual components, across 33 different styles, sold across a variety of retailers and records the prices daily throughout the year.
