So close… but Walters Everest climb abandoned

Damian Walters, chief executive of the British Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Installation (BiKBBI), has been forced to abandon his attempt to climb Mount Everest just 300ft from the summit.

Walters, who is attempting to raise £100,000 for The Furniture Makers’ Company – the furnishing industry’s charity – was forced to turn back when bad weather closed in around the mountain.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their kind words of support,” Walters told kbbreview. “As disappointed as the summit attempt became, I’m truly humbled by the experience and the generosity of those who made kind donations. I’m especially thankful to the kbbreview team for their support.”

BiKBBI communications manager Nicole Mercer, added: “He was so close! Around 300ft, so he must be absolutely gutted, but also so proud to have achieved what he has. We’re really proud of how well he did.”

Walters received the coveted Special Achievement Award at the bbbreview Retail and Design Awards ceremony in Birmingham in April.
