Sunday 10th June and the last day of the rally (sad face).
Setting off from Lüneberg, headed for Copenhagen, via Malmö, today was going to be the longest drive of the lot, 6 hours 6 mins to be precise, best get a wriggle on.
Today’s fancy dress theme was Viking, so off we set on the Autobahn (which was an experience in itself) headed for Malmö to complete our challenges for the day, but first, petrol.
It was fair to say we got a few odd looks at the services but luckily we weren’t the only team there.
Headed for the Rødbyhavn-Puttgarden ferry, goodbye Germany, hello Denmark (via Sweden).
On board the ferry, the Vikings became somewhat of a tourist attraction. A few teams, included us, decided to head up on deck to take some photos whilst cooling off from our Viking furs. It wasn’t long before a crowd began to gather round us, I suppose its not every day you see a bunch of Vikings with a guy in a blond wig, bikini and six inch heels.
After a number of photo requests from strangers, the 45 minute crossing was nearly done.
Time to lose the paparazzi and head back to the car.
From the ferry we still had 120 miles to travel, through Denmark and over the Øresund Bridge into Sweden.
Fun fact for you: The Øresund Bridge is the longest combined road and rail bridge in Europe and connects two major metropolitan areas: Copenhagen and Malmö.
Now in our third country of the day, with ABBA blaring out of the stereo (obviously!), we had made it to Burlöv Golfklubb – yep you guessed it, it was a Golf Club.
Here we had 3 challenges to complete, target shooting with a paint ball gun in a golf buggy, some putting and more target shooting, still fully dressed in our Viking attire!
After messing around on the golf buggies for a bit, it was time to get down to business, crack on with the challenges and try to regain some points so we wouldn’t come in last!
First up was Henesh and Tara for the golf buggy target shooting, whizzing around they completed the course in 1 minute 14 seconds, the quickest time was 54 seconds, so not too shabby!
Next was the target shooting – 5 bottles lined up, just needed to shoot them down – simples right?! Well for Deanna it was, she managed to shoot down 4 bottles giving her the second highest score for the day!
The final challenge was some simple putting on the golf green; Lindsay came out on top for team kbbreview for this one, but Deanna managed to get a hole in one, less successful for Tara and Henesh!
That was it, there was nothing else left to do on the challenges, our fate was now set in stone (face plant emoji).
We headed back over the Øresund Bridge for our final destination, Copenhagen. Pulling into the car park of the hotel we couldn’t believe it, Daisy had done it, 1400 miles, Harrow to Copenhagen. So how did we celebrate? We climbed onto Daisy’s roof and bonnet and jumped all over her (as if she hadn’t been through enough over the last four days).
Later that evening we headed to the picturesque Tivoli Gardens, which is the second oldest theme park in the world, for the Gala Dinner and awards ceremony, obviously we managed to squeeze in some roller-coasters too.
During the day each team had been asked to vote for the best dressed car, the team with the best fancy dress and the team with the greatest team spirit as well as a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize place for the points gained throughout all the challenges. Now in case you hadn’t guessed it, whilst we gave it our best shot with the circumstances we faced, we were never going to be taking an award home with us for the highest points.
The first award on the night was given for best team spirit and went to the D***tators, from Doug Cleghorn Bathrooms. Not only did they put so much effort into their car and costumes, they were also always willing to help out other teams along the way.
3rd place went to BMF1 from Builders Merchant Federation – they also won the award for highest fundraisers, raising a stonking £17,300!
2nd place to Cembrit Chandlers 10cc, from Cembrit/Chandlers Building Supplies – these guys picked up a number of awards on the evening, best dressed and best dressed car. These guys had a different theme for their car everyday and with matching costumes so the awards were well deserved.
1st place to Construction UK Negotiation Team – these guys went above and beyond with the challenges so they had to win!
The following day it was time to say good-bye to our beloved Daisy, dropping her off at the nearest scrap yard on the way to the airport. Needless to say, it was emotional, she was a great little motor.
Bye bye Daisy, Daisy goodbye!
