Finalists - Designer Award for Bathrooms - contracts and housebuilders

Back to the finalists

Daniel Cook - C P Hart

Cost: £25,000

What Daniel says: “It was certainly felt that this would be a feature that would only add to the saleability of the entire house as it is a neutral bathing haven that is as functional as it is beautiful. It complements the rest of the house well and came in on budget.”

What the judges say: “Daniel has done his client proud with this bathroom. It fits right into this property and does exactly what every developer wants and allows any prospective customer to imagine themselves living there the moment they come in.”

‘The Drive’, a £3m single house development in Ickenham was clearly a top level project for Daniel. The brief was to create a classic bathing sanctuary that will have a high level of appeal, enhance the overall saleability of the house - and be within budget. It needed to utilise the space available to create not only a beautiful bathroom but also a functional one that would include a separate shower, bath and double vanity unit to cater for the needs of all of the many possible clients.

Sarah Ireland - Sarah Ireland Bathrooms

Cost: £15,000

What Sarah says: “The result was fabulous and my favourite commercial bathroom design yet. The client brief was more than fulfilled and they were so pleased they named it after me - ‘The Sarah Ireland Suite’.”

What the judges say: “It’s certainly glamorous and extravagant. Not for everyone’s taste as a result but for a honeymoon suite in a hotel it will make any newlyweds grin as they walk in the room.”

Hampton Manor in Solihull has a pedigree, it was originally owned by former Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel but had passed through various hands until the Hill family recently bought it with plans to convert into a hotel. Sarah was commissioned to design 15 en suites including this Honeymoon Suite. She wanted to make it the most extravagant and the bespoke glass bath surround in fuchsia pink with champagne bucket sunk in. The mosaic in the Wedi board shower and also bath panel, seat and walls also sets the room off.

Alison Ebanks - Water & Stone Bathrooms

Cost: £70,000

What Alison says: “Above the basin I added a bespoke massive mirror, to reflect extra light from the window seat. Lighting was added to the alcove area above the basin as well as extra spotlights on a dimmer control added into the ceiling.”

What the judges say: “Very good value in a property like this and there are some nice product choices and Alison has used the space and surroundings well.”

Don’t be fooled by that budget, that £70,000 covered a beautiful barn conversion project in the Cotswolds with six bathrooms - a cloakroom and five en suites. The first £30,000 went on the cloakroom with substantial bespoke stone work and the rest on the en suites including this pictured main one. Picking up the colours in the exposed oak beams Alison used the feature tiled wall to bring out the neutral tones across the rest of the room centred around the window seat.

Max Spenser-Morris - Design Republic

Cost: £90,000

What Max says: “I liked the idea of creating a smooth, encompassing space. This was intended to keep the feeling of a contemporary spa alongside the incorporation of the limestone basins and stone porcelain.”

What the judges say: “I think its great that a commercial project like that has been done by someone who knows bathroom design. It looks smart, modern and as inviting as any changing room I’ve ever seen.”

Cascades Tower is an upmarket residential development near Canary Wharf in London and Max was brought in to oversee the design, supply and installation of the changing rooms in the block leisure centre. The new specification included curved shower cubicles with Botticino mosaics, bespoke limestone basins, Vola brassware, glass panelling and LED feature lighting. A new sauna was also required so this was specified by Design Republic and supplied & installed by a specialist subcontractor.
