Finalists - Young Designer Award for Bathrooms - age 25 and under

Back to the finalists

Stoyko Bussarov - Bubbles Bathrooms

Cost: £21,800

What Stoyko says: As space was in short supply and storage was crucial for the client, I focused on maximising the use of vertical space in the bathroom without creating a heavy or claustrophobic feel.”

What the judges say: “Stoyko has made the most of a horrible tight space in a stylish and effective way. There’s some nice product choice and the clients have got everything they wanted.”

A difficult angular space made for tricky installation problems and Stoyko was faced with a small room into which the clients still wanted to get a bath and shower. Stoyko drew on his experience of naval interior design to come up with something that made the most of a confined space with stylish tiling and product choice.

Lindsay Merchant - Sarah Ireland Bathrooms

Cost: £10,200

What Lindsay says: “Budget was an important factor and with such a small but totally bespoke space, I felt this may be tricky to achieve. But with careful consideration of products, I came in under budget. Throughout the process I was keen to focus on the visual impact of the design, as I was restricted on layout but entirely free to use my imagination.”

What the judges say: “Lindsay has done a lot with a typical tiny space and her product choice is excellent considering all the restrictions.”

Lindsay’s clients, a young professional couple, wanted a guest bathroom in a small property where the single existing bathroom could only be accessed from the master bedroom. Reclaiming an unused downstairs toilet that measured just 960mm x 1,800mm, Lindsay has included a shower, WC, basin and space for toiletries as well as soundproofing for privacy from the next-door kitchen.

Monita Cheung - CP Hart

Cost: £23,000

What Monita says: “The room provides everything the client will need and yet still remains spacious and minimal. The products and style of the room is contemporary and elegant and the monochrome colour scheme will remain timeless.”

What the judges say: “An elegant room with great product choices and use of space.”

A smart family bathroom was the brief and Monita has teamed a freestanding double-ended bath and shower screen to make the most of a great view out of a large window that dominates one wall. Despite this restriction, the room is balanced by the product choices and complementary colour palette that leaves the client with more than expected.

Leanna Fry - Ripples Tunbridge Wells

Cost: £39,600

What Leanna says: “This was exactly what the clients wanted and more. I fulfilled every part of their brief and, with added luxury elements like the lighting and underfloor heating, it exceeded their expectations.”

What the judges say: “A really striking room with great contrasts and character. The clients are clearly a little flamboyant and this matches their personality.”

A millionaire couple with properties around the world, the clients’ Tunbridge Wells apartment was their base and the master en suite needed to reflect their glamorous lifestyle. The natural green slate gives an ethnic feel contrasting with the zest lime green Bisazza details. With bespoke furniture and basin elements too the clients have something unique.
