Master Retailer Award for Kitchens

Back to the categories

ONLY ONE ENTRY PUTS YOU FORWARD FOR BOTH THE MASTER RETAILER AND SHOWROOM CATEGORIES.

The Master Retailer Award is the big one. It's the prize that judges your overall business and says you are the best retailer in the industry. It covers showroom, customer services, business plans, overall strategy and financial success and puts your operation forward as the perfect example for any kitchen retailer.

But this isn't an award for the biggest turnover, highest profits or largest operation. It's as likely to be won by a small one man High Street operation as a huge business employing hundreds. Judges are looking for how you manage and plan the business - and how successful it is in its target market.

Showroom Award for Kitchens

The showroom is face of your business; it nees to give an instant impression when the customer walks through the door and then keep them interested when they're inside. This award honours the best in kitchen showroom layout and design.

The judges are not looking for the biggest showroom, or the showroom that's had the most money spent on it. They're looking for how you've managed the space and resources available and how you've managed to make your business stand out to your target customers.

How to put together an entry

You will need to provide information on your company under each of the eight headings listed here. This makes it easier for the judges to compare very different businesses.

All the eight answers added together must not exceed 1,000 words.

It is up to you how much weight you attach to each heading, but pay particular attention to the descriptions of your showroom as that goes forward to the Showroom Award for Kitchens category.

Click here to see some hints and tips on putting a good entry together.

1. Background
Describe your business to the judges and give a brief history and breakdown of how you've reached where you are today.

2. Business success
Give some evidence to back up why you're a successful business. Growth, turnover, profits, size, staffing levels etc. Remember that definitions of success change as the market grows or shrinks.

3. Marketing
How do you make sure your target market knows about you? Do you advertise? Hold cookery demonstrations and open evenings? What interesting and novel ways do you use to get your business noticed?

4.Online
How do you use the internet to keep in touch with your customers, market yourself, or keep up with new products and innovations. Do you use online ordering or business management systems?

5. Showroom
Describe your showroom. What is your overall showroom strategy? How have you considered the customer's journey through the store? Why have you chosen the products and dressings you have? How have you picked the lighting and flooring? What message and image are you trying to send to customers as they first walk in? How have you considered the window displays? What innovative ideas have you come up with that makes your showroom unique?

6. Staff and training
How do you pick your staff? How do you keep them up to date with product, design and business developments? What career paths are available to them?

7. Customer service
What is your customer service strategy? Do you treat them like kings? Or let them walk around and let the showroom speak for itself? How is this reflected in the way the business works. What clever ideas do you use to keep the customer satisfied? Coffee shop? Creche? Taxi service?

8. Forward planning
What strategy do you have for the future? How well do you know where you want to be and how you're going to get there?
