What Stephen says:

“Materials were considered at length, the kitchen needed to be practical and family oriented as well as stylish and elegant. The overall scheme was to be calm and light, and this palette lent itself to painted cabinets with marble worktops and stainless steel/nickel accents. We sourced the handles and hinges from the USA. However, the finish was chrome so they were then nickel-plated in London.”

PROJECT COST: £51,000 EX VAT

The brief:

Stephen’s client works at a high level within the design industry, so this was always going to be a challenging project. She wanted the kitchen in this traditional style, new build property to have a strong American feel, echoing the New England style but with more ‘attitude’. The overall room size was large, but the position of the doors and windows were a restricting factor, especially considering that the room had to double as a dining and entertaining space as well. Appliances had to be kept to a minimum, although a four-oven AGA was essential. The large, four-metre island had to be made up of two pieces of marble.

PROJECT COST: £94,500 INC VAT

The brief:

The client’s house is a semi-detached property, built in 1865 and situated on the Phillimore Estate in London W8. It is one of a group of four houses in Phillimore Place, designed in a Tudor Gothic style. The client was in the process of completely remodelling her home and wanted a contemporary kitchen that was unusual and ‘something she had not seen before in a kitchen magazine’. The client enjoys entertaining and the kitchen had to be practical and hard wearing. Robert was provided with a very specific appliance list and was also asked to provide seating within the kitchen area, and a glazed cabinet for glassware and crockery.

PROJECT COST: £34,200

The brief:

The client’s kitchen space was originally broken down into three areas and work on an extension via a conservatory was already under way. The original kitchen design worked predominantly in the original kitchen section with a range cooker in the chimney breast. The client wanted to know whether a better layout for the kitchen could be achieved but was not sure how best to use the space available. Ream’s brief was to take a fresh look at the project and determine whether the desirable Metris furniture could work within it to combine a pleasing aesthetic with practical demands.

PROJECT COST: £69,900

The brief:

The client had some very specific requests when they first came to see Keith and Helena. The kitchen would be installed in a new extension and had to be able to flow from the existing oak flooring in the hallway, yet create a distinctive separation from the old part of the house into the contemporary extension. The kitchen also had to maximise the views across the garden and incorporate an island unit with casual seating and dining for four to six people. Black gloss door fronts and a discreet extractor were also on the list as well as two dishwashers, a wine storage unit and coffee machine.
