What Janice says:
“The final design uses the strengths and scale of its surroundings then contrasts this with the tactile nature of the furniture to create an environment befitting my clients’ lifestyle. I became involved in the wider scale design of the room and all of the potential alterations and when the clients became excited with my suggestion of the door and dado rail solutions, the progression of the design leapt forward.”
The history of this house goes back over a century, now occupied by a family of six, with four children all under 12 years old. Originally a billiards room, it was converted into a kitchen many decades ago and the clients wanted the symmetry and scale to be utilised to give a visual impact while retaining the personality required for a family hub. A large AGA was a key feature, also as much worktop space as possible and storage for non-kitchen items. The clients also wanted to give the kitchen character and desirability, so that in several years’ time they will still ‘smile at the furniture when they walk into the room’.
