‘Don’t miss out on home automation,’ says expert

Automation products are a lucrative market and shouldn’t be overlooked by installers, a home improvement expert has claimed.

Jeremy Brett, managing director of the Consumer Protection Agency (CPA), has argued that as millennials reach the “prime house-buying” age, automated products are expected to “hit the market in a big way”.

A recent MTW report found that new technology is set to create growth in the UK shower market in particular, predicting a £50 million sales ‘bounce’ by 2020.

Brett also said that some experts predicted that every aspect of the home could be controlled remotely in the future.

In 2016, the kitchen and bathroom market is expected to surpass £4 billion, with consumer confidence boosting growth in the sector alongside sustained vigour from specialist retailers, according to the MTW report.

The CPA, an organisation that connects customers with accredited bathroom and kitchen installers and provides insurance-backed guarantees (IBG) and deposit protection, has seen an increase in IBGs being taken out for bathroom and kitchen jobs.

“Consumers are investing more time and money in creating first class kitchen and bathroom spaces, with a focus on wellness, luxury and relaxation, and are willing to spend more on remodelling this area of their homes,” commented Brett.

“We have seen a record increase in IBGs this year, with bathroom and kitchen installations included in this.”
