New kitchen or bathroom the biggest hook for home buyers

Of all possible home improvements, a new kitchen or bathroom is the most likely to sway potential buyers, according to a new survey.

The figures from home services marketplace Plentific.com showed that 47% of potential homeowners would be more influenced to buy if a property had recently had a new kitchen fitted. Of these, 28% would be more likely to offer a higher price.

A new bathroom also had a strong influence on the buying decision, with 46% saying this feature would affect their decision to buy, with 27% saying they would be willing to offer more.

Following in third place, new windows would sway 45% of potential buyers, with 23% of them suggesting they would offer a higher price.

Lower down in the rankings of home improvements, 31% of potential buyers said new appliances would affect their decision to buy, and 22% would consider a higher offer due to this.

A Plentific spokesman said: “Many property buyers keep an eye out for particular home renovations when searching for their next home. It goes without saying that costly renovations are high on the wish list for most buyers. These can add significant value to a property and incentivise buyers to offer a higher price. If a seller is looking to get a better offer, our insight could provide useful guidance on which home improvements to invest in.”
