NJK Interiors goes into liquidation

NJK Interiors in Surrey has gone into liquidation.

Administrators Martin Armstrong and James Patchett of Turpin Barker Armstrong were appointed as joint liquidators of NJK as of October 26.

Twenty-five staff were made redundant and suppliers have been left unpaid.

NJK Interiors was founded as Kitchen Ideas in 1992 by brother and sister Mark Farmiloe and Rose Tapper.

The firm had showrooms in Woking, Frimley and Guildford and later added bathrooms. It rebranded as Not Just Kitchen Ideas.

In 2013, Farmiloe passed away and his sister and widow continued to run the business successfully.

In February 2016, two local businessmen purchased the business, which generated a turnover of £3.5 million and carried out more than 350 projects a year.

The new owners opened a branch in the village of Sunnyhill and rebranded as NJK Interiors in September.

Former joint-owner, Rose Tapperm told kbbreview that operational issues and a “loss of reputation locally”, as well as costs escalating from an office move and upgrading its IT systems, led to month-on-month losses, with no finance in place to manage the cash flow.

This, coupled with an “un-certain trading landscape”, led to the directors closing its doors on October 6.

In a statement Tapper said: “The family are devastated that Mark’s legacy has ended this way. Many of the staff had grown with the company. A kitchen business is like no other – it takes a great many years to build a team and fine-tune your offering and reputation. Sadly this can be broken very quickly.”
