Revealed: the bathrooms UK consumers really really want

Bricks-and-clicks retailer Sanctuary Bathrooms has analysed Google search data to identify exactly what it is UK consumers most want in the bathroom.

The company has analysed the top décor and product trends for 2019 and has created an image of what ‘the UK’s most searched-for bathroom’ looks like (see picture).

Its research showed that while for years bathroom decors and products have been dominated by white, especially for sanitaryware, darker colours are now on-trend with black being the most searched-for colour in sinks and toilets.

Out of more than 14,000 monthly searches, the most sought-after toilets were black back-to-wall, close-coupled models; with black also tops for sinks (double sinks with mixer taps). But when it came to baths, freestanding roll-top copper was the most searched for out of 35,000 monthly tub-seekers.

Grey was not left out either, with herringbone flooring in that shade the number-one choice among 22,300-plus searchers, with grey also winning in wall tiles.

Sanctuary Bathrooms found that traditional options and chrome were still dominant for accessories, however, with wooden mirrored sink cabinets wooing the lion’s share of 35,700 searches. Tall freestanding corner cabinets in white were also a winner, while chrome topped the searches for toilet roll holders and towel rails.

Separate single shower enclosures were also a significant ‘want’ among 57,200 average monthly searches.

Commenting on his company’s research, James Roberts, chief executive of Sanctuary Bathrooms: “Monitoring demands and trends from UK consumers is incredibly important to our business’s success.

“What potential customers search for allows us to be prepared for what people want. This data has highlighted some interesting finds for us. The freestanding bath continues to be a popular choice, after rising as a trend a few years ago. There also seems to be a substantial lean towards separate shower and bath enclosures in this research.

“New colour trends are also interesting to note, with consumers seemingly captured by darker tones, with greys and blacks both present in our findings.”

Sanctuary Bathrooms is a family-run business that boasts more than 25 years’ experience in the KBB market, with an established online retail business and a physical showroom in Leeds.
