Sharp launches range of smart home appliances

Vestel used IFA in Berlin to unveil its latest range of Sharp home appliances, including a line-up of app-controlled, wi-fi-enabled smart products.

The line-up comprises a Love2Cook oven, a double French door fridge-freezer, a freestanding 8kg washing machine and a 14-place-setting dishwasher.

The Turkish OEM company has the licence for Sharp domestic appliances across Europe, excluding Russia and Italy.

Speaking at a press conference at IFA, Matthew Lang, UK managing director of Vestel, updated attendees on its plans for the Sharp Home Appliances business in Europe.

He said: “We launched this venture at IFA a year ago and it’s been a year of growth and building the business. It’s about building a team and about building across Europe. We’ve launched into new distribution partnerships around Europe and we’ve expanded into new offices in London, Munich, Amsterdam, Madrid, Budapest and Bucharest.

“We’ve also been building a team of industry experts – we have quite a lot of people from the original Sharp team, but we’ve also brought in new people with industry experience to help us grow across Europe.”

Lang added: “We’ve been investing in R & D, leveraging the technological expertise of the Sharp team, and we’ve been coupling that with research into what retailers and consumers want. We’ve used a lot of digital surveys, reaching out to consumers and retailers to understand what is the space that Sharp Home Appliances has got to play in in Europe.

“We want to bring products to market that are really going to help improve the way the way that people live their lives – we want to bring genuine value. We also want to support the products because we recognise that one of the key pillars for success in this arena is going to be support – that’s support for retailers to grow their business and support for consumers with the products and technology they’ve bought.”
