The kitchen market is still showing signs of strong growth, according to new data.
The 2017 Overview Report by JKMR, a B2B research company, showed that market activity in 2016 was 7.5% higher than the previous year, and further growth in 2017 is predicted.
Fitted kitchen product sales reached almost £4 billion and new kitchen installation numbers hit close to 1.2 million. These were driven by sales to new builds as well as a still strong owner-occupier refurbishment market.
All product sectors saw growth, but the integrated major domestic appliance (MDA) and sink/tap sectors were the best performers.
However, these growth rates were driven, in part, by price increases with increased pressure on supplier margins expected in 2017.
The report also found that the growth of ‘studio style’ mass-volume players Wren and Ikea have been impacting both the multiple and studio sectors, and the independent retail sector is continuing to evolve with new styles of players.
