LG wi-fi-connected appliances are now compatible with Google Assistant on Google Home, it has announced.
A total of 87 wi-fi-connected appliances, including washing machines and dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, vacuums and air purifiers, can now be controlled through the voice assistant, and ‘eligible’ Android and iOS smartphones.
Users can give simple voice commands on their phone or anywhere within range of the assistant on Google Home to check things like the time remaining during wash cycles on a washing machine or tell their refrigerator to make more ice.
LG claimed that set-up is simple and convenient using the LG SmartThinkQ app, which allows users to control the entire line-up of the brand’s smart appliances.
LG’s SmartThinQ learns about a consumer’s usage patterns and helps predict their needs. The more a consumer uses LG’s smart appliances, the smarter an appliance becomes.
The appliances use adaptive technology to interpret usage habits and data, with it then alerting owners when they need to order filter refills for the refrigerator or air purifier, as well as being able to troubleshoot lint build-up in the dryer.
“LG makes it especially easy for consumers to connect and interact with wi-fi built into virtually all of its 2017 appliances,” said Song Dae-hyun, president of LG’s Home Appliance and Air Solution Company. “Our collaboration with Google is an example of our strategy of ‘Open Partnership, Open Platform, and Open Connectivity’.”
