Smeg UK awards distribution contract to Yusen Logistics

Smeg has appointed Yusen Logistics UK to handle retail and trade distribution for its complete product range in the UK.

The entire Smeg range, from small and major domestic appliances to commercial and medical units, will be handled through Yusen Logistics’ dedicated appliance cross-docking facility.

There, collections from Smeg UK’s warehouse will be consolidated and optimised for delivery across the UK and Ireland.

Yusen Logistics replaces Smeg’s previous logistics contract with Canute Group, which has been struggling financially and was sold in a pre-pack administration deal earlier this year.

Mike Giddings, managing director for Smeg UK, said: “This is an important step for us as we look to enhance and expand our service offering.

Yusen Logistics has a proven track record for delivering premium brands at premium service levels in the appliance industry, and we have already seen improvement in the operation which we look forward to continuing.”

Nick Rees, commercial director for Yusen Logistics UK, added: “We’re excited to be representing such an industry-leading brand.

Smeg UK is known for its iconic style and premium brands, and it’s great to be able to support them to ensure the delivery of their products reflects this.”

Yusen Logistics also has contracts with Hoover Candy and Haier and said it has a “tailored solution” specifically for the appliance industry.

Smeg said it has also restructured its Portsmouth-based warehousing operation, bringing it back in-house.
