Aqualla thanks NHS nurse with new bathroom

Northern-Ireland based bathroom supplier Aqualla has announced the winner of its ‘Healthcare Hero’ initiative, a campaign launched in April to recognise the service of frontline NHS staff working during the covid-19 situation.

Deputy Sister Debbie Corbett (pictured), who lives in Dundonald and works at Antrim Area Hospital, has been named Aqualla’s ‘Healthcare Hero’ and has won a bathroom after she was nominated by her sister Joanna Sloan from Belfast.

“My sister Debbie has wanted to be a nurse since she was five years old,” Sloan said. “In these most difficult times, she has never once put herself first, working long shifts, often staying late to hold the hand of patients who are in their last moments of life.

“Debbie has also been working outside of hours to collect donated iPads so patients can connect with their families as well as gathering knitted hearts to make them feel loved. She is marked from the PPE, yet rather than complain she feels thankful.

“I am so happy that Aqualla is giving something back and I know that Debbie will be delighted with her new bathroom as this is something she has been putting off since moving house six years ago.”

Debbie, who was chosen from a long list of deserving entrants, said: “This is such a surprise. I’m thrilled and a little overwhelmed that I’m considered a healthcare hero because I’m just doing my job like others in health and social care – in reality we are all going above and beyond. A new bathroom is so needed in our house right now so this really has come along at the right time. Thank you Aqualla.”

Aqualla, formed in November 2011, supplies bathroom products to around 200 showrooms in the North and South of Ireland, with a more recent expansion into the England market in 2018.
