Date and venue revealed for the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards 2021

Liverpool has been announced as the host city for the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards 2021 event in May next year.

The ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at the magnificent St George’s Hall in the heart of the city.

This continues the plan that will see the biggest awards event in the UK and Ireland kitchen and bathroom sector move to a different city every other year.

The St George’s Hall is a neoclassical masterpiece and was opened in 1854 after, appropriately enough, a design competition. It has been everything from an infirmary, convert venue, law court and registry office.

“As someone who was born and bred in Liverpool I can’t begin to say how exciting the prospect of having the awards there is – especially in such a stunning venue right in the heart of one of the most vibrant and creative cities in the country,” said Taylist Media managing editor Andrew Davies.

While the date and venue are being planned it is clearly acknowledged that there is a real chance that Covid restrictions may still be in place in May and events of this size won’t be allowed to go ahead.

Writing for kbbreview.com, Davies said: “As you can imagine, we’ve had many ‘what-if’ discussions about the physical event, but the overwhelming feeling is that the show must go on. We can only control what we do and we know can put on a great event in Liverpool.

“This is will be the 27th year of the awards and they’ve become an industry bellwether for confidence and positivity – something that is needed now more than ever before. We want the awards to happen because we genuinely think it’s important for the collective spirit of the KBB community and to not plan for a real event feels like throwing in the towel.

“If the event doesn’t run in May then, of course, we will switch to a virtual ceremony. But we hope that the industry will be confident and optimistic with us, and that together we can join forces to look to the future and celebrate everything that’s positive. So let’s all cross our collective fingers and we’ll find out together whether we can all celebrate in person!”
