Global Doors accepted onto manufacturing champions scheme

Yorkshire-based manufacturer Global Doors has been accepted onto the Manufacturing Champions business support programme.

The specialist in made-to-measure sliding wardrobe doors employs 30 people and has been in business for 25 years.

The Manufacturing Champions Programme, which launched in July last year and runs until March 2023, is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and is delivered by the University of Huddersfield.

The programme is aimed at manufacturing companies identified as having high growth potential. So far it has approved 35 applications and has contracted 11 grants to a total of £36,590.

Global Doors has big plans to grow its turnover to £10 million over the next three years and intends to create more jobs and raise the skills and capabilities of its team.

In order to make sure that Global Doors take the correct steps to grow its business, the programme will provide 60 hours of mentoring.

The chosen mentor, Jonathan McMullon, will act as a non-executive director and advise them on rationalising the design process, maximum activity and business priorities and support them by helping with Capex and Revenue grants. There will also be further opportunities for support from the University of Huddersfield.

The company will undergo a technology and productivity review, after which an action plan will be agreed and implemented.

Said mentor McMullon: “The Manufacturing Champions Programme is at the start of the exciting journey in supporting Global Doors to achieve substantial growth over the next three year and to continue its planned success by continuous improvement.”

Global Doors commercial director Matthew Fletcher added: “This programme will be vital in developing and embedding systems, processes and decision-making for growth.”

Key goals for Global Doors include the transition to become a parts-based manufacturing business and the development of a full digital factory to produce the most cost-effective and sustainable products, using automated processes to increase efficiency and stakeholder value.
