InSinkErator: Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do

InSinkErator is committed to protecting the environment, and recently became one of the sustainability partners for the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards 2022. GM-managing director EMEA, Ashley Munden explains the partnership and provides an insight into its eco product portfolio.

InSinkErator invented the food waste disposer over 90 years ago, offering consumers a sustainable alternative to managing food waste in their homes. Today, as part of its ongoing efforts to encourage the uptake of eco-friendly practices for the future of the planet, InSinkErator has announced its sustainability partnership with the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards 2022.

At InSinkErator we are committed to providing lifestyle enhancing solutions, which promote the efficient use of water, are safe within the home and reduce the impact that food and plastic waste has on landfill sites and the wider environment.

The sustainability partnership with the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards 2022 will continue to raise awareness of the portfolio of sustainable solutions we offer at InSinkErator, in an effort to encourage kitchen specialists to discuss investing in appliances with eco credentials with their customers.

The kbbreview Retail & Design Awards, now in its 28th year, honours and celebrates the pioneers and hard-working members of the kitchen and bathroom industry. The winners of the 16 award categories will be announced at a much-anticipated awards ceremony, to be held at Hilton Birmingham Metropole on March 7, 2022. The kbbreview Retail & Design Awards has a number of sustainable processes in place, including a solution to managing any food waste generated at the event itself as well as being carbon neutral and providing much needed support to global initiatives.

At InSinkErator, we are active campaigners for the prevention of food waste, encouraging the disposal of food waste sustainably and advise composting wherever possible. Where this option is not feasible, an InSinkErator food waste disposer is the ideal alternative for diverting food waste from ending up in landfill.

As the inventor and global market leader of food waste disposers, at InSinkErator, we manufacture a wide range of models, designed to suit different family sizes and home cooking needs. Our food waste disposers safely grind inedible food waste, such as vegetable peelings, with ease. The food waste particles are then rinsed down the drain, through the standard plumbing, which is much more hygienic than leaving food waste to rot in the kitchen bin.

Not only does this offer an alternative to traditional disposal methods, but by reducing food waste going to landfill sites, it also helps to reduce greenhouse gases and the household’s carbon footprint. In addition, and where there is an anaerobic digester within the sewerage system, the nutrients from the food waste can be recovered and turned into biogas and fertiliser, to complete the circular economy.

The InSinkErator portfolio also boasts an elegant collection of specialist kitchen taps, in a variety of on-trend finishes, that can reduce water waste and save energy. Furthermore, a household’s single-use plastic waste can be reduced with an InSinkErator 4N1 Touch tap as it can instantly dispense filtered, ambient, cold water at the touch of a button, eliminating the need to buy bottled water.

Sustainability continues to be an important factor when consumers are considering the products to invest in for their homes and the recent United Nations COP26 conference reinforced the need for us all to act to combat climate change. We will continue to raise awareness of our food waste disposers and specialist kitchen taps with kitchen specialists, to ensure consumers are informed of the sustainable solutions available for their home that can reduce their carbon footprint, and subsequently support the wider environment.
