Case study: Opulent with a relaxing ambience

This designer marble and mixed material bathroom is a recent project from the Worthing, West Sussex area, designed by Aron Linkhorn, director of Alexander

The theme has been deployed across a family bathroom and a separate en-suite, which is used by an older relative of the client, so there were plenty of people to please with this project.

The client had a lot of great design ideas for the project, combining numerous styles and products found via Pinterest with their own personal tastes.

Family bathroom

The family bathroom is not a huge room, but the client was keen to incorporate a lot of desirable design features, so it was key to make the most of every inch of space. Overall the bathroom space was to be light and opulent.

Because of this, the white marble tile choice has been used everywhere except the feature wall to help brighten up the space. In addition, numerous lighting options have been incorporated – wall lights on either side of the cabinet, the LED cabinet itself, and downlights within niche alcoves as well as in the ceiling.

Placing the bath in the alcove of the room dictated most of the layout, including the location of the desired feature wall.

Herringbone tiling for the feature wall was another in-vogue choice for this project, but it works really well with the white marble tiling and black accents elsewhere in the room. The feature wall is also equipped with plenty of storage.

A metre-wide vanity unit has been chosen in a natural wood texture, which complements the overall theme. Above the vanity unit, a mirrored LED cabinet enhances the lighting and storage options further.

Black accents have been used throughout the family bathroom in the form of brassware, a towel rail and accessories. A gridded shower screen has been chosen to accompany the black accents and adds another design element to the room.

Instead of a bath panel, the client requested a tiled alternative, which was both a good design choice and an intricate task for our tilers on-site.

One of the really nice features in this bathroom is the addition of practical niches. These have been enhanced with small downlights, which add a relaxing ambience to the room.

En suite

Many of the design choices for the family bathroom have been replicated across the additional en-suite. The en-suite had to be light and, importantly, very usable. Fewer designer inclusions have been deployed for this room, but the design still makes use of the white marble tiling and niche alcove theme that was favoured for the family bathroom.

A walk-in shower makes it easy to access the shower area, which has been fitted with wall panels to match the white marble theme.

Chrome brassware and accessories were chosen as a more subtle accompaniment to the Pewter Grey storage unit and illuminating LED mirror.

The en-suite delivers upon the well-lit and useable requirements, with the addition of some nice features that will help with day-to-day use of the bathroom.
