Caesarstone unveils bold new sustainability targets

Surface company Caesarstone has committed to achieving a host of environmental targets over the next several years, which include increasing its use of recycled materials, massively reducing its carbon footprint and working towards 100% renewable energy use.

These promises were announced as part of its latest Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) progress report, which reported on Caesarstone’s progress over the last several years, as well as established its non-financial goals for the next several years.

As part of the ESG, Caesarstone says it has been monitoring the environmental impact of its products. According to the company, one of its ongoing goals is to reduce the impact that its surface products have on the environment even further.

Caesarstone has committed that 40% of the products in its mineral portfolio will contain up to 40% recycled materials by end of 2023. By 2025, the company plans for this number to rise to 50% recycled materials.

Looking at the last several years, Caesarstone also reported that it had worked to ensure a 13% decrease in minerals used per ton of product from 2020 to 2022, as well as an 18% decrease in resin per ton for the same period.

The company has also committed to reducing its carbon footprint by at least 20% by the year 2026. According to Caesarstone, this will involve a company-wide approach that will see carbon reduction plans implemented at each of its facilities.

As a result, Caesarstone says it has committed to working towards 100% renewable energy at its own production sites, hoping to reach this target at its Bar Lev facility in Israel by 2026, and at its Lioli facility in India by 2030.

Yosef Shiran, chief executive of Caesarstone, said that he was proud to share the company’s latest ESG progress report. He added: “Our business has grown and evolved since our first ESG Report in 2020, and so has our ESG program. In the environmental arena, Caesarstone will be focusing on five main areas: increasing the use of recycled content materials, expanding renewable energy sources, reducing carbon footprint, water usage and general waste.

“We have established specific ESG goals and commitments and have already achieved significant strides towards meeting these targets, demonstrating that sustainability is a natural extension of our core business values, realised through continuous innovation of our products and processes, and our focus on the entire supply chain.”
