National retailer enters kitchen market for first time

A major national retailer has taken its first steps into the KBB retail market by launching its first-ever kitchen collection.

Household and garden retailer Wilko has unveiled a range of six entry-level self-assembly kitchens. According to Wilko, the six styles reflect the UK’s most popular current kitchen colourways and designs, in an effort to appeal to as many consumers as possible.

Designs across the collection include Matt Shaker, Woodgrain Effect Shaker, Slab Matt, Slab Gloss, J Pull Matt and J Pull Gloss styles, all of which are available in a range of colours.

Wilko also says that its kitchens all offer quick-assembly features, such as pre-inserted cams and dowels.

The range also includes options for taps, sinks, worktops, lighting, splashbacks and accessories – all of which are Wilko own brand

kbbreview has reached out to Wilko for more details on the product offering.

In August 2023, Wilko collapsed into administration after a failed attempt to secure a rescue deal, with 400 stores closing their doors. However, the retail brand was bought by CDS Superstores – who also owns The Range – with Wilko’s website returning online in October. Since then, Wilko has also opened new retail locations in Plymouth, Luton, Exeter, St Albans and Rotherham, with another to open in Poole in the near future.

Announcing the retailer’s return at the end of last year, Alex Simpkin, CEO of CDS Superstores, said that the public reaction to Wilko’s closing was “undeniable”.

He added: “It’s clear that there’s a huge love for Wilko and we’ve seen an encouraging demand for the return of its own-brand products. That’s why we’ve taken the decision to reintroduce Wilko back to many of the high streets and communities that it used to so proudly serve.”

The kitchens are launching today, April 25. Wilko customers can purchase the brand’s kitchens online, but there is currently no word on if they will be coming to physical retail locations.

As part of the launch, Wilko is offering savings of up to 15% across its range of kitchen furniture, worktops, sinks and taps, with the promotion running until May 25.
