Kitchens fourth in countdown of complaints to Citizens Advice

‘Fitted kitchens’ received the fourth highest number of complaints to Citizens Advice so far in 2024 in when it comes to home maintenance and improvements.

New data shows that 1,604 recorded, but unverified, kitchen complaints were made between the start of January and end of October.

Specialist fixings and fastenings distributor Tradefix Direct submitted a Freedom of Information request to Citizens Advice to find out how many Brits are feeling let down as a result of cowboy builders. 

‘Plumbers and plumbing’ came fifth with 1,327 complaints and ‘fitted bathrooms’ with 1,225.

Overall, 22,509 complaints were made to Citizens Advice in England regarding home maintenance and improvements in this period.

Roofing, roof sealing and chimney repair complaints made up the most, up from 3,502 in 2023 to 4,330 in 2024.

Complaints about insulation saw the biggest increase, more than doubling from 565 complaints to 1,155 complaints in 2024.

The South East was found to be the cowboy builder hotspot of England, with 4,068 complaints made in the past 10 months. The North East had the least with 1,235.
