Victoria Mich may only have been at Chisholm Design in Surrey, for a relatively short time but looking at the impact she has already made on the business, you’d be forgiven for thinking she was far older and more experienced.

Joining the company as a graduate designer, thanks to her passion, drive and ambition, in just three years Mich has already progressed to the role of senior designer. With that career progression not only comes more personal responsibility in terms of the design projects she works on, but also an expectation to nurture new members of the team.

“Victoria has been with us for three years now and she has truly blossomed in that time,” says Robert Chisholm, co-owner, Chisholm Design. “She is an exceptional team member in every way imaginable: creative, thoughtful, passionate about her role and increasingly knowledgeable about the sector.

“Beyond that, on top of her day job, Victoria has also been responsible for the induction and training of new starters in the business. Not only has this helped them integrate into the company quickly and efficiently, but it has also helped her to develop as a trainer and coach, too.”

Most recently, Mich was given her biggest career challenge to date when she was asked to take the lead on the design and specification of the company’s new, larger showroom design. This important project involved creating six new display concepts, intricate lighting plans and liaising with installers, with minimal guidance from Chisholm Design’s founders Jo and Robert.

“Being the lead designer on our showroom redesign was an amazing experience,” she says. “It really took me out of my comfort zone as a designer and I’ve learnt so much more about our cabinetry, all the supporting products and what they all mean to the business.”

Her achievements speak for themselves but, what does success look like to Mich and where does she see herself in five years’ time?

“We’ve recently introduced bathrooms to our product offering so I’m super excited to get to grips with that side of the industry and seeing how that impacts the business,” she explains. “The aim is to keep learning and developing to become an even more accomplished designer – I’m really happy to be developing my KBB career at Chisholm Design.

“I love the business; I love the company and I really love the people.”

Do you know a Rising Star?

We’ve teamed up with Blum to find the upcoming stars of kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom retail.

We need YOU to tell us who your Rising Star is – who are the members of your team that you believe stand out as a star of the future in this industry?

THERE ARE ONLY TWO RULES:

  • They must be currently employed by a retailer – defined as a company that sells direct to the consumer
  • They must be under 30 years of age on March 4, 2025

Other than that, they can perform any job role within your business – admin, design, sales, finance, installation, we don’t mind as long as they’re a star!

Between August 2024 and March 2025, we’ll be picking a monthly Rising Star to feature in the magazine, online, and podcast. Those eight monthly winners then become the shortlist for the overall winner which will be revealed at the kbbreview Retail & Design Awards 2025 in April.

ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS SEND US:

  • A clear high-resolution head-and-shoulders picture of them (taken with your phone on normal settings is fine)
  • Their full name and job title
  • Up to 500 words telling us why they’re your Rising Star
  • Your full name and job title

And don’t worry, if you qualify and want to nominate yourself then that’s fine too.

This is a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of your business and the talent within it. It’s a great chance to let your people know how much you value them and believe in their contribution. It’s also a way of demonstrating to the wider industry just what can be achieved if you take the time to nurture raw talent.
