Renovation spend up significantly over last year, says Houzz

Median home renovation spend has grown by more than 25% in the last 12 months, according to the latest research from online design platform Houzz.

This was one of the major findings of the platform’s 2025 Houzz & Home Study, which collected data from more than 1000 UK homeowners over the age of 18 about their recent renovation activity.

According to Houzz’s data, the median renovation spend at the end of 2024 was £21,440, which is a 26% increase over the previous year’s median spend figure of £17,000.

This is a considerable spending boost, considering that in last year’s research, it was found that 2024’s median renovation spend had only grown by 13% since the year 2020.

Despite this, the top 90th percentile of spend has decreased slightly over the last year. In the 2024 Houzz & Home study, this figure was reportedly £200,000. However, in this latest research, that figure has reportedly fallen around 19% to £169,000.

The total number of survey participants who have renovated in the last year also appears to have increased slightly over the last 12 months, increasing 3% year-on-year to 51%.

When asked about what challenges they faced during their recent renovations, the top hurdle was reported as “finding the right service providers”, which was mentioned by 35% of survey respondents. This was followed by “staying on budget” (32%) and “finding the right products or materials” (26%).

Interestingly, the number of homeowners who said they had experienced no challenges whatsoever during their recent renovations has increased slightly, to almost one-in-ten (9%). This is up marginally over last year’s figure of 6%.
