According to new research from online bathroom retailer Victorian Plumbing, sales and product searches for smart toilets have risen significantly in the years since Covid.
Victorian Plumbing says its sales data shows that sales of smart toilets – also known as shower toilets – have increased by 150% since 2021.
Additionally, user searches for “smart toilet” have increased by 24% in the last year, and by 160% over the last five years. To put this into perspective, 10,000 people are said to have searched for “smart toilets” in the past month alone. Victorian Plumbing says this indicates a “growing global shift toward smarter, more sustainable bathroom solutions”.
Alex Woods, bathroom expert at Victorian Plumbing, commented: “As smart home technology becomes more mainstream, the bathroom is emerging as the next focus. Smart toilets are no longer niche, they’re setting new standards for hygiene, sustainability, and user experience. With features like automatic flushing and energy efficient heating, these products are rapidly evolving, positioning itself as a key player in the future of bathroom design and innovation.”
“Smart toilets are one of the most practical upgrades for reducing toilet paper consumption. The integrated bidet functions provide thorough cleansing with water, meaning you rely less on toilet paper. While there’s an upfront cost, the long term savings on toilet roll can be significant, not to mention the added comfort and hygiene benefits.”
In other news, Victorian Plumbing recently re-launched furniture company MFI as an online retailer, after acquiring the brand when it took over its now-shuttered retail rival Victoria Plum.
