One million step milestone passed by Quooker MD

Stephen Johnson is walking 64km every day this August

As he completed the twelfth day in his month-long challenge, Quooker UK managing director Stephen Johnson hit the one million-step milestone in his colossal 2,000km fundraising walk.

Johnson made his millionth step on the trail while walking through Paris yesterday, August 12, while temperatures rose to as much as 35 degree heat in the city.

In addition to his impressive progress having already walked through four countries, Johnson has also managed to raise more than £41,000 for his chosen charities, Grief Encounter, and The Friendship Circle. This puts him almost halfway towards his goal of raising £100,000 for the charities.

Johnson embarked on his gruelling charity challenge at the start of this month, aiming to walk 64km every day in August for 31 consecutive days.

Aside from just raising valuable funds for his chosen charities, Johnson says he is also undertaking the walk in memory of his late father, Neville Johnson, who sadly passed away last year.

Discussing his progress on LinkedIn, Johnson said: “Dad was more than a father. He was a pioneer who built a national brand from his garage.  He gave people opportunities before they’d ‘earned’ them. Including me at 16, when school wasn’t going my way.  Dad proved that building a legacy isn’t about how much you sell. It’s about the lives you impact and the chances you give.”

He continued: “That’s why I’m completing this crazy challenge. Walking 2000km over 31 days with no rest. To help kids living with grief and children with disabilities. To give back, just like he always did. So today, as I hit 1 million steps, I’m asking from the heart.  If you can, please donate. Every pound raised motivates me to keep going.”

Given his ambitious goal, Quooker has said the challenge could also earn Johnson a Guinness World Record for most steps walked in a single month.

His ongoing walk across Europe this month follows his successful completion of another walking challenge in August 2024. Last year, the Quooker MD set out to walk 1,000 miles to raise money for Grief Encounter – a challenge he surpassed by hitting his goal early. Despite the early finish, Johnson actually increased his step target and continued walking even further to continue raising funds for the charity.
