National UK tiling retailer Topps Tiles has enjoyed a strong start to the 2026 financial year, reporting its fifth consecutive quarter of like-for-like growth.
In its latest trading update, which covers the 13-week period up to December 27, 2025, the company said that excluding revenue from its recent takeover of CTD tiles, it had seen year-on-year growth of 3.7%.
Revenue grew by 2% on a like-for-like basis, which Topps said has been supported by its ongoing strong performance across trade categories. The Group said its recent consecutive growth periods have helped “mitigate the impact of the continued cost inflationary environment” and left the company “outperforming the market”.
Taking its recently acquired CTD business into account, Group sales grew by a slightly more modest 1.6%. Topps Group also confirmed its total estate of CTD stores has decreased from the previous year, now totalling 22 stores, instead of the 31 it had last year.
After Topps took over the CTD Tiles brand, along with around 30 store locations, the tiling giant agreed to dispose of four of its stores after the Competitions and Markets Authority (CMA) identified potential competition concerns in Dorking, Aberdeen, Inverness and Edinburgh. In this latest trading update, Topps confirmed that in December 2025 it had disposed of its fourth and final store, finally bringing its CMA process (which first began in 2024) to a conclusion.
With these four stores now disposed of, CTD delivered consistent like-for-like growth of 4.7% in Q1 2026, with Topps Group saying that this quarter’s performance has provided a strong foundation for it to deliver profit in the 2026 financial year.
Topps also gave an update on its recent acquisition of the Fired Earth brand, and says it was able to establish “a fully operational supply chain and transactional website” by December 16, and is looking forward to making the most of owning the brand in the coming year.
Finally, the Group confirmed that its new CEO, Alex Jensen, has now taken full responsibility for the business, with his predecessor, Rob Parker, having retired from the company.
Alex Jensen, Topps Group CEO, concluded: “The Group continued to deliver growth in Q1 across each of our existing businesses and delivered like-for-like growth in CTD stores, whilst achieving some significant milestones, including appointing an interim and permanent CFO, closing the CMA process with CTD and acquiring Fired Earth assets. We are confident of delivering another year of progress both strategically and financially.”
