Responding to a market where aesthetics and performance must go hand-in-hand, MyLife Bathrooms has re-engineered one of its most established products to meet the demands of today’s designers and installers.
The new Altea Hexalyte Slate Shower Tray builds on the natural appeal of slate with a reinforced internal structure that delivers strength without any compromise.
Inspired by nature and reinforced by design, the new Altea range now incorporates Hexalyte technology and is crafted with a glass-fibre reinforced composite material, which forms a precise hexagonal structure within the tray.
“For designers, the look of slate remains incredibly popular, but the industry has been asking for something that performs better behind the scenes,” says Cahal Lynch, NPD manager at MyLife Bathrooms. “Hexalyte allows us to engineer strength into the tray without adding bulk, which benefits everyone from the installer to the end user.”
One of the standout advantages is weight. At up to 38% lighter than the average slate shower tray, Altea Hexalyte is easier to handle on site, particularly in properties with stairs or restricted access.
For independent retailers, the reduced weight also makes storage and stock management simpler. The new manufacturing process also removes many of the issues historically associated with slate trays.
Discolouration, shrinkage and distortion are eliminated, and the tray is formed with zero join lines, creating a seamless, premium finish that sits comfortably in modern bathroom schemes.
Performance has not been overlooked. The pressure-formed thermoset composite is resistant to cracking and warping, offering reassurance for long-term use. The surface itself is easy to clean, antibacterial and scratch resistant, with hydro reflective properties that encourage water to flow directly towards the waste.
This helps prevent pooling and supports a level-3 anti-slip rating, an increasingly important consideration for homeowners and specifiers.
“Retailers want products that generate confidence and reduce callbacks,” Lynch adds. “By combining a durable core with a highly practical surface, we’re giving our partners a tray that’s built to last and easy to sell.”
Flexibility is another key selling point. Rectangular trays offer cut-to-fit adaptability of up to 75mm, making them suitable for small or awkwardly shaped bathrooms where precision matters. The range covers square, rectangle, quad and offset quad formats, ensuring compatibility across a wide variety of layouts.
Altea Hexalyte Slate Shower Trays are available in four contemporary colours: White, Black, Sand and Anthracite. This considered palette allows designers to coordinate effortlessly with brassware, enclosures and furniture, while retailers benefit from a streamlined yet versatile offering.
For showrooms looking to balance visual appeal with genuine technical advancement, Altea combines enduring strength with aesthetic finesse, making it a must-have for today’s bathrooms.
