Wren, which claims to be the UK’s largest fabricator of quartz worktops, has been awarded the new Quality Mark from the Worktop Fabricators Federation (WFF) – one of only three in the industry to gain the accreditation since its launch in January.
The Quality Mark was introduced to help identify surfaces that have been produced safely, in an effort to protect the health of fabricators.
The mark came ahead of recent changes in Health & Safety Executive (HSD) guidance on how to cut engineered stone safely to avoid silicosis. The new rules effectively banned dry cutting and polishing and highly recommended using low-silica materials.
Wren’s chief operating officer, Raf Klimek said: “We have invested over £40m in the largest and most modern quartz fabrication facility in Europe. We use advanced computer-controlled water jets and cutting machines, our team wear full protective equipment with their own respirators, and the entire site is protected by a misting system that ensures all dust is captured and removed from the air.
“Our factory practices and the fact that we do not cut or finish worktops at installation locations provides greater reassurance to our retail and contract customers.”
