Colleagues from bathroom supplier hib have collectively covered the rough distance between London and New York as part of a fundraising challenge for Ronald McDonald House, with the company successfully raising over £1,200 so far.
Throughout July, around 50 members of hib staff worked together to take on the 79-Mile Challenge, completing everything from walks, runs, bike rides, hikes and swims to raise money for seriously ill children in hospital.
Ronald McDonald House is a charity that provides free accommodation for families of unwell children. The organisation encourages fundraisers to take on the 79-Mile Challenge, as this usually represents the average distance families have to travel to be close to their seriously ill children if they require specialist hospital treatment.
hib’s head of brand and marketing, Deb Freeman, was the first member of the team to complete the challenge, which she achieved in just seven days’ time.
“It was a fantastic challenge to be part of, especially knowing it was all for such an important cause,” Freeman said. “Completing the 79 miles in seven days and being the first to finish was a great personal achievement, but what really matters is what we’ve all been able to do together to support Ronald McDonald House UK.”
Laura Bennett, corporate fundraiser at Ronald McDonald House UK, commented: “The support shown by hib staff through the 79-Mile Challenge has been nothing short of amazing. Once again, we have seen so many of their colleagues come together to support our mission and it means so much to us.
“Every mile walked, run, cycled or swam, and every pound raised, helps families stay together and close to their child in hospital when they need each other most. Thank you hib for your continued support and for making such a meaningful difference to families across the UK.”
Hib has also appealed to anyone who would like to support its efforts to make a donation to the charity, saying that every contribution will help provide free accommodation to families of children receiving specialist hospital care.
