Kitchen market predicted to grow by £100m in 2027

Despite volumes reportedly being down by around 20% compared to pre-Covid levels, a new industry report has forecast the UK kitchen market could grow by as much as £100m in 2027.

This prediction comes from publisher MTW Research, which has released a new 190-page report analysing the market from 2019 until now, and also provides a forecast on market growth up until the year 2031.

Based on £5bn of company sales, MTW says its research indicates that the kitchen market has “experienced a fundamental shift in demand” since 2019 with some suppliers struggling to remain relevant, which has been compounded by a real-terms decline of £1 billion since 2022.

However, the company says its research shows a noticeable shift towards “premiumisation” in the kitchen market, and says this is positive news for independent kitchen retailers who are well placed to benefit from the shift in market demand. In fact, the company is predicting both an increase in market share and real-term growth for retailers in the back half of 2027.

MTW director Mark Waddy said: “Kitchen market volumes are 20% lower than 2019, some sectors are in their 5th year of decline. Volume demand is declining whilst ‘premiumisation’ is accelerating. After 25 years of researching this market, its clear we’ve reached an inflection point – a fundamental, structural market shift.

“Experienced retailers are delivering a combined £6 million of kitchens a day, with market trends moving toward them. In contrast, some suppliers are seeing the market shift from under their positioning – less able to exploit the opportunities that exist in this challenging market”.

MTW says its report shows that the kitchen tap category is also gaining share of the market, with brassware sales rising by around 11% since 2019, “despite a recent pullback”. Additionally, the kitchen sink market is also estimated to have grown by £20m since before Covid, with MTW adding that recent tougher trading conditions have detracted slightly from those gains.

In the kitchen furniture market, MTW has forecast that suppliers in are set to grow their revenue by 16% in the medium-term. Similarly, the built-in kitchen appliance market has also grown its market share in 2026, with sales forecast to rise by more than 15% over the next few years.

Similarly to retailers – and based on companies reporting a combined £900m in profits – MTW says that its report shows there are clear opportunities for suppliers to build on their recent revenue growth, despite current challenges with volume demand.

“Consumer affluence and experience in certain key sectors are underpinning kitchen market value in 2026, as volumes remain lacklustre and the wider home improvement market remains constrained,” concluded Waddy.

MTW Research says its Kitchen Market Research & Analysis 2026 report is available to buy now for £595.
