Design platform Houzz has released its predictions of the top trends for home design in 2025, which includes a bold claim about what it believes the emerging kitchen colour will be next year.
Houzz hosts a community of over 70 million home design enthusiasts, and as such, says it can offer unique insights into current design trends and how people are designing their homes.
At the very top of Houzz’s predicted home design trends in 2025 is the continued resurgence of colourful bathroom suites. According to Houzz: “Swapping white sanitaryware for colour and texture is a trend that’s been quietly building over the past year and looks set to take centre stage in 2025.
“Green, a prominent colour at Fall 2024 fashion weeks, is taking a bigger presence in bathrooms, alongside shades of brown, pink and blue for vanities, tubs and basins. Various cheerful hues of teal, mint and lilac were also on display at this year’s Decorex interior design show, and bathroom designers on Houzz continue to show how to give these retro-style colours a modern twist.”
Colourful bathrooms are followed closely by Houzz’s prediction that plaster pink kitchens will prove incredibly popular in the new year. The platform said: “While green, blue and grey kitchens remain popular, another trend has steadily been emerging in the photos uploaded to Houzz – that of warm, plaster pink cabinetry.
“A gentle counterbalance to bolder designs, this shade – somewhere between a soft pink and a chalky plaster tone – is warm and soothing. This versatile colour can stand alone when combined with pale wood and white, but it also pairs beautifully with dark green, a colour that continues to be popular in kitchens.”
Another trend that Houzz believes will impact the KBB sector is the increasing popularity of tucked-away utility spaces, which the platform says have been growing in popularity in recent years. Houzz added: “Tucked away utility rooms are a growing trend on Houzz, as homeowners look for clever ways to squeeze practicality and purpose out of under-used areas. From washing machine cupboards at the top of stairs to laundry zones in bathrooms, this is a trend that looks set to grow in 2025, as homeowners search for smart ways to optimise smaller properties.”
Houzz also believes that within kitchens, cabinetry that offers an obscured view of contents, such as smoked, frosted or reeded glass doors, will continue to prove popular.
Additionally, across the whole home design space, Houzz is predicting that arches and arch-inspired products will also continue to prove popular with consumers as the shape is “soothing to the eye”, going so far as to call archways “the biggest shape in interiors for 2025”.
Outside of just kitchens and bathrooms, Houzz also predicted that richly patterned wallpaper, anti-minimalist “intentional clutter”, patterned upholstery, folklore-inspired elements, and even flood-resistant gardening will be some of the other major home design trends for 2025.
Last month, Houzz also released its 2024 UK Houzz Bathroom Trends Study, which found that the median spend for primary bathroom projects has reportedly increased by 33% year-on-year.
Earlier in the year, the 2024 UK Houzz Pets & the Home Study also reported that the majority of pet owners confessed to prioritising their pets when making decisions about their home renovations.
