Former Trojan Baths MD passes away

Former Trojan Baths managing director Ernie Hatton, who led the company for almost 15 years, has sadly passed away.

Hatton passed away on October 30, at the age of 80. He first joined Trojan as a salesman in 1988 before becoming managing director of the company in 1998. After taking on the role, he led the company until his retirement in February 2012.

Current managing director David Mosley said that Hatton’s leadership and dedication played a key role in shaping Trojan into the company it is today.

He continued: “On a personal note, Ernie was my boss for ten years and I learned a great deal from him. A former cyclist and racing driver and always with an impeccably clean car Ernie brought that same care and attention to detail to everything he did.

“We shared many laughs during our time working together, and on our trips away he would often remind me to enjoy family time because life goes by quickly. I’ll never forget him telling me how he hid a tape recorder under the sofa to capture his kids’ reactions to Santa’s visit on Christmas morning, ‘you can hear the pure excitement and joy in their voices’. He was right, life moves too quickly.

“The 46 remaining employees who had the privilege of working alongside Ernie will remember him as a good and honest man who earned the respect of all who knew him, both within Trojan and across the wider bathroom industry.”

Mosley concluded: “Ernie’s contribution to Trojan and to my personal development will not be forgotten. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”

Ernie Hatton is survived by his wife Dot and two sons, Greg and Andy.
