MARKET ANALYSIS: Waste disposal |
Back |

Around six per cent of homes in Britain now have a food waste disposer and the majority of kitchen retailers offer a food waste disposer with their kitchens, ensuring huge growth of our Evolution models.
Researchers across the globe agree that food waste disposers can provide environmental benefits. Ninety-four per cent of UK homes are missing out on the ability of food waste disposers to help them contribute their green value to a sustainable society.
This shows how the UK pales in comparison with other parts of the world in adopting a convenient and responsible way of disposing of food waste. For example, half of households in the USA and 34% of households in New Zealand have installed food waste disposers in their homes. Also in the USA, around 80% of new homes have a food waste disposer, ensuring a future generation of responsible food disposal.
As household waste collection and separation schemes are rolled out across the country, there is huge growth potential for food waste disposers as a simple waste-management tool.
The UK's waste agenda continues to develop. There are strict government targets to reduce the amount of household waste sent to landfill. More and more local authorities are issuing food recycling 'slop buckets' and more households are having to deal with delays between refuse collections.
As a result, food waste disposers are becoming one alternative solution, offering home owners a convenient, clean and hygienic method of disposing of kitchen food waste.
