Wolseley UK confirms closure plan for BCG

Wolseley UK has confirmed the proposed closure of its distribution business BCG, in Leamington Spa.

The company, which also owns Plumb Center, also revealed its plans to close 98 branches, which is an upward revision of its proposed 80 branches back in September 2016.

The group estimated that the restructuring process would result in 800 redundancies over two to three years across the UK.

The proposed closure of the distribution centre would put 170 jobs at risk of redundancy over the next 18 months, as well as an additional 100 administration and support roles at its Leamington Spa headquarters.

The remaining 342 employees would be relocated to a new local site, it confirmed in a statement.

To date, Wolseley UK has closed 38 Plumb Center branches, which has resulted in 200 redundancies.

However, it claimed that these proposals were still subject to employee consultation.
