National bathroom chain Better Bathrooms, which claimed to be the biggest independent bathroom retailer in the UK, has stopped trading and called in the administrators following widening financial losses over the past few years.
Former workers have taken to social media to vent frustration and search for jobs.
A number said that the business ceased trading at midday. All employees were told that they no longer had jobs at Better Bathrooms in a staff meeting at 13:30pm.
The chain had 13 showrooms and an e-commerce business. The showroom phones and the website have been taken down.
In its latest financial reports, it said losses had more than doubled for the year to end of March 2018.
The bathroom retailer reported losses had widened to more than £3.5 million, from £1.5m the year before, on almost flat sales.
The business said investment in people, infrastructure and processes had weighed on earnings.
“The group’s underlying performance is expected to improve throughout the financial period following the sale to Roxor Group,” the business said.
Roxor group, which also owns BC Designs, Ultra Finishing, The Fireclay Factory and PTB Manufacturing, bought the loss-making business last October for an undisclosed sum.
