HPP signs distribution deal with Kronospan

Doors, boards and fittings supplier Hill’s Panel Products (HPP) has signed a deal to stock the entire range of Kronospan’s UK-made Kronodesign worktops.

HPP will carry Kronospan’s worktop range at its new 19,000sq ft warehouse, which was added to its Oldham site last year.

Austrian-based Kronospan manufactures wood-based products at 40 sites around Europe, Asia and north America. The worktops that HPP will be handling, which were first introduced last year, will be made at Kronospan’s new worktop production line at its Chirk factory, near Wrexham.

HPP manufactures its own-brand products, including kitchen and bedroom doors, as well as supplying products from other UK and European brands. It said it would allocate a quarter of the space at its Oldham warehouse to keeping stock of the Kronospan worktops.

Alan Bolton, purchasing director at HPP, said: “HPP has been working with Kronospan for 30 years and we are very close partners. The key factor in this distribution agreement is the fantastic range of decors and surface finishes in the new Kronodesign worktops. These are really on-trend with decors ranging from classic to contemporary including wood grains, stones, marbles, steels and concretes.

“Furniture industry trends are changing faster than ever. Traditional demarcations between kitchen, bedrooms, office and other spaces are increasingly blurred with consumers looking for the widest choice of decors and finishes, from super-matts to high glosses.”

HPP said that Kronodesign worktops are especially robust. They are made in the UK using the very latest manufacturing technology and are claimed to offer excellent water, heat and abrasion resistance. They have a sealed back edge and either a laminate wraparound or a bonded ABS front edge. They also have a sealed under-edge to prevent moisture and steam penetration.

HPP’s Bolton said: “As a British manufacturer, HPP wanted to support other UK manufacturing and we are also aware of various potential Brexit scenarios that may happen. So, all these factors played a part in this Kronospan distribution deal.

“We are very excited to have the opportunity to distribute these worktops which are supported with very good marketing material and sample swatches. The value of our initial Kronodesign stock will be around £70,000, which represents a significant investment.”

He added: “Earlier this year, Kronospan opened a £7 million state-of-the-art worktop production facility at its Chirk plant. This was part of a wider £350m investment programme across the plant. All new worktop ranges are now available from Kronospan centres across Europe.”

Stock of the new Kronodesign worktops is due to arrive at HPP in October.
