Sigma 3 Kitchens, the parent company of Masterclass Kitchens, has announced it is to invest £20 million to significantly increase production capacity over the next three years.
The company said that, after a very successful year during which demand for its products grew, the £20m earmarked to increase capacity is the largest investment in buildings, plant and infrastructure in its history and will “present major opportunities for the business, customers, colleagues and local community”.
Sigma 3 Kitchens chairman and chief executive Brian Lakin said: “The expansion will be broadly split into two areas. Firstly, the next one to three years will see a major project to increase the capacity and efficiency of our Llantrisant plant. This involves a factory extension that will significantly increase our manufacturing footprint, as well as major investments in plant, systems and people.”
He added: “Secondly, a new facility that has been purchased will be commissioned in Bridgend. This will allow us to not only add production capacity, but also enable specialised production, which will improve overall efficiency. The new facility will add 130,000sq ft of production and office capacity and will again result in major investments in new equipment, systems and people.”
The new facilities will almost triple the existing footprint in terms of production and office space. The investment will involve new buildings, the expansion of existing buildings, automation, new equipment, new business systems and training and organisational infrastructure.
Commenting on the planned expansion, commercial sales director Steve Tough said: “Sigma 3 remains devoted to maintaining the same consistently high-quality products for which they are known, while driving forward quality control procedures to ensure the product is best-in-class, regardless of the facility from which it is manufactured. We are committed to investing in improvements that will benefit and support their valued trade partners and end customers, while delivering the projects in an environmentally aware and sustainable manner.”
