The Wood Works adds more showrooms as part of ambitious growth plans

Bespoke kitchen manufacturer and retailer The Wood Works is to open two new showrooms in addition to its flagship store in London’s Mill Hill.

The 3,000sq ft Mill Hill studio opened in early 2019 and The Wood Works is now taking its business into its next phase of growth with the two new retail showrooms.

The first will open in March at the business’s 20,000sq ft Letchworth factory, where the showroom will occupy 800sq ft of floorspace at the front of the premises.

The new Letchworth showroom will feature two full kitchen displays. One modern display will be from The Wood Works Elements range, while the other is a traditional offering from its Revival range.

Visitors to the Letchworth showroom will also be able to look around The Wood Works’ production facility, where all of its bespoke furniture is manufactured. This showroom will serve Letchworth and its surrounding areas, including Cambridge, Hitchin, Harpenden and Stevenage. The showroom will be managed by Clare Besser, formerly of Greenheart furniture, as well as two senior designers, one junior designer and a project manager.

The third showroom for The Wood Works will open in April in Sunningdale, near Ascot. The Wood Works has already had many clients in the area and so it decided this location would be ideal for a new showroom.

The Wood Works chose a location at the end of Sunningdale high street so as to benefit from high levels of footfall and passing traffic. It is also opposite a prominent Farrow & Ball shop. The showroom has 2,000sq ft of space and will house four kitchen displays, showing everything from super-modern to intricately traditional. It will employ two senior designers, one junior designer and a project manager. Appliances will be from Sub-Zero and Wolf, Gaggenau, Miele and Siemens.

The Wood Works was founded over 30 years ago by Richard and Donna Delane (pictured). Over the past five or six years, the company has seen its turnover grow consistently by between 30% and 40% a year and has built its social media following up to 120,000 across all platforms.

The new Letchworth and Sunningdale stores mark the start of the next phase of the company’s expansion and it plans to open further showrooms around England over the next few years.

Commenting on the new showrooms, managing director Richard Delane said: “It has taken a long time to get to where we are now. The business was started over 30 years ago and we only opened our first retail premises in 2019, previously selling from a very small showroom at our factory location.  We have had to contend with some ups and downs due to Covid, but the market has been buoyant, and with our marketing machine really firing on all cylinders, we felt that now was the best time to expand.”

He added: “These two additional showrooms can be serviced by our existing set-up (fitters, factory etc), so the challenge is less a logistical one, but more of a marketing one – getting our name out to clients who have potentially not heard of us as a company before, and most importantly, convincing them that we are the best company to use for their quality, British-made, bespoke kitchen.”
