kbb Birmingham 2022: ‘More potential to expand our offering’, says Compusoft + 2020

David Tombre, chief executive, Compusoft + 2020

Q: Compared with 2021, how’s business?

A: The majority of the KBB industry has been successful in the past year, so being part of that has had a positive impact on our business. Launching Winner Flex has also been really well received by our customers, as this is something many have really needed to work more flexibly. There have also been a number of acquisitions that have added new technology to our offering, which has helped us reach new customers. Now that we have merged with 2020, there’s even more potential to expand our offering to current customers, which is really exciting.

Q: What do you think about the overall health of the KBB industry?

A: The KBB sector has obviously been thriving following a boom in the home renovation market. As the world returns to a new normality, there will be challenges to overcome in maintaining growth as consumers switch their spending. Retailers will then have to think about how they are able to connect with consumers right from the start of their buying journey. Online technology that enables consumers to explore new ideas is an area that needs to be more embraced by retailers to make sure they attract new customers.

Q: What are your main challenges and how are you working through them?

A: The installer crisis is well documented and we are continuing to support the BiKBBI in its work to solve this. It’s not going to be a quick fix, but it is something that we want to support the industry in through the BiKBBI’s work. We’ve also been continuing to optimise our software to make it easier to share installation packs with fitters, so that our retailers can be as efficient as possible in installing kitchens and bathrooms.

We’ve also recently launched new software, such as SimpliPlan, which is more focused on installers to help them with planning spaces.

Q: How important are social events – like kbb 2022 – for the future of the industry?

A: It’s a people industry that is really well connected, so having events, like kbb Birmingham, that bring the industry together is vital. Suppliers, retailers, media and associations all play a part in creating and maintaining a successful industry, so being able to come together makes sure that important conversations on the future can be had. It’s great to be back.
