Kent-based kitchen manufacturer Stoneham Kitchens is celebrating its impressive 160th anniversary this year, vowing to plant 2000 trees to mark the historic occasion.
The company, which was founded back in 1864, says it plans to work with an organisation called One Tree Planted over the next year in an effort to help re-establish the lost woodlands of Europe, which also supports its sustainability goals.
Stoneham started by making rungs for ladders and staircase balustrades in the 19th century, before moving into interior products in 1939 with the production of its first table. The company then moved into fitted kitchens in the late 1960s.
In addition to supporting One Tree Planted, the business says it has also created several new kitchen ranges to celebrate the milestone anniversary. This year, Stoneham will release Chart, an in-frame kitchen range with a 55mm frame, and Hadlow, which features an ultra-slim frame. The company is also set to release a third range, called Matfield, which retains the look of an in-frame kitchen but with a single façade.
Stoneham Kitchens has also created a new product that it is calling a “bespoke picture frame”, which is designed to frame double or triple appliances, which is also launching this year to celebrate the company’s anniversary.
Adrian Stoneham, managing director of Stoneham Kitchens, said: “We source all our timber sustainably, but we wanted to go a step further for our 160th anniversary. So, we are working with One Tree Planted to support their projects in Europe where forests have been lost.
“Stoneham has been a privately-owned family business for over a century-and-a-half, providing bespoke furniture for customers across the UK, including the Royal Family.
“Our workforce of 75 staff is highly skilled and knowledgeable, producing high-quality, stylish kitchens that our customers love, and which stand the test of time. Our broad manufacturing capability permits bespoke and often unique cabinetry production, which means our designers can enhance and personalise designs to suit discerning clients. That’s why Stoneham is still thriving and continuing to grow today. We are very proud to reach this important landmark in our history.”
The business is now in its fifth generation of family ownership, and also holds a Royal Warrant.
